On the second year of Mobile in MNL’s “Share the City Gran Fondo,” Emerald Avenue in Pasig City will host different pop-ups and events for cyclists. It’ll be on June 12 from 7 am to 7 pm.
“Share the City Gran Fondo” is an Independence Day event organized by Mobile in MNL, the advocacy project of Rowhe Siy, that aims to forward pressing issues of active mobility in the Philippines. This year’s theme is “Caution.”
“There are so many people who rely on active transport — biking being the most common — to get around the city. But the safety of bike commuters is still not something policy makers and many people who drive cars take seriously,” Mobile in MNL said in an Instagram post.
Motorists are not allowed to be in this space so everyone can freely move without fear of getting hit by a speeding motorized vehicle. Everyone is welcome to join the event. There will be food stalls, drinks, cycling goods and workshops.
Coffee and tea businesses that are frequented by cyclists will be present. Enjoy the drinks from Daily., Lay-by Coffee, Kombi Brew and Kohi. Grab a bite from Luto ni Gab, Leanne’s Bread & Pastry, Wings on Wheels and Totally Nuts. Jacob’s Well will also serve tea.
Accessorize your bicycle with Side B, Sack It! and Gatcha. Bike shop Tambay Cycling Hub will also be there. Check out handmade bicycles from Nyfti too.
If you’re looking for something to wear while biking, treat yourself with cycling apparel from Santic, Esteban Cycling Community, Groundwork and Extasis.
Bicycle Friendly Philippines and AltMobility PH will conduct cycling lessons for those who’d like to learn how to ride a bicycle. It’ll be from 7 am to 10 am.
Movement and Mobility Specialist Rica Rodriguez will grace the event’s Biker Maintenance booth. The fitness educator will teach lessons about muscles, how to prevent injuries and will explain issues caused by muscle strain, among others.
Bike mechanics Eugene Canelas (Bike Wrench PH), Marlowe Apeles (Budol Buddy PH), Carlos Colmenares (Bike Fix PH), Robert Samson (Bert’s Cycle Service) and Wheel Profile will be having a booth too for those who’d like to know more about bicycle maintenance. They can check your bikes too!
Hundreds of cyclists registered in this year’s “Share the City Gran Fondo.” They accepted the challenge to complete a hundred kilometers on Independence Day. Proceeds of the registration will be used in buying lights for bike commuters in Metro Manila.
