Marikina River Park is submerged in flood water

Marikina River Park is a popular bikers’ destination so we were shocked when we heard the news that the whole park was submerged in flood water.

What’s worse is that many of our beloved fellowmen are currently struggling because of the devastation caused by Typhoon Ulysses.

We went to Marikina today and the scenes were just heartbreaking. Cars were floating and it was difficult to spot houses. The vast area where bikers enjoy their rides? It’s not visible anymore.

Residents said that this incident reminded them of Ondoy’s onslaught in 2009. We also heard that the cute farm animals did not survive the flood.

“Malapit kami sa ilog at hanggang second floor ng bahay namin ang baha,” Wowie Osias told First Bike Ride. “Iniwan ko ‘yung bike doon, ipapa-overhaul at bike wash na lang kapag okay na.”

He has to leave his bike because his life is more important than his bicycle.

Marikina is close to the hearts of cyclists because it’s a city that is continuously improving its infrastructure and facilities for bikers. We hope that everything will be okay soon.
