Young entrepreneur Leslie Babiera just started having an active lifestyle this year after signing up for a gym membership. After a few months of working out, she fell in love with fitness and found herself influencing everyone to have an active lifestyle.
Unfortunately, her gym life abruptly ended when community quarantine happened. She was stuck at home but this didn’t stop her from getting fit. She ordered different workout equipment so she can do home exercises. It was also during this lockdown period when she discovered her love for yoga. But wait, her fitness addiction didn’t stop there. She even managed to open her own activewear business just a few weeks ago.
You think she’s done with her fitness activities? Not yet. She recently bought a bike, all because she was persuaded by First Bike Ride and some people she’s following online.
𝐅𝐁𝐑: Why did you ride a bike?
𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐞: I really wanted to ride a bike years ago but I was afraid because of the trucks and the vehicles in Manila. I opted to enrol in spinning classes instead and I really enjoyed it. And now, I wanted to take it to the next level. I was inspired and motivated by the people I follow, including First Bike Ride. Riding a bicycle is hassle-free. You can get away easily with heavy traffic, you don’t pay for gas and you won’t have any worries if your car will fit on narrow streets. Plus, you’re not contributing to pollution.
𝐅𝐁𝐑: Why are you pushing people to have an active lifestyle?
𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐞: Health is wealth! It’s important to be healthy, especially now that we’re in a pandemic. I started working out this year and I got more motivated to continue when I saw results. I was inspired by other people and now I want to inspire others too. Riding a bicycle is a good cardio exercise, it’s good for the heart. But we should remember that being healthy is not just exercise, it’s also important to eat healthy.
𝐅𝐁𝐑: How was your biking experience so far?
𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐞: I’m really enjoying. I did my first bike ride alone and I saw the difference between driving a car and riding a bicycle. It’s faster to finish errands with bicycles, and it’s more convenient too! You get less time finding a parking space and you can go through (or walk) easily if traffic gets bad.
𝐅𝐁𝐑: Any message to aspiring bikers?
𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐞: Cycling is for everyone. It empowers me. I am a kind of girl who is very eager to learn and experience many things. I want to explore and travel with my bike. When I ride alone, I get to have my “me time.” But I also enjoy biking with friends. I am currently encouraging my girl friends to try riding a bike because I believe that we can. They’re still afraid because of many factors, saying that they’re “girls.” But you know, I’m a firm believer that if others can do it, women can do it too.
