Thanks to their bicycles, this group of friends get to fish in Manila Bay during their day off.

Jesrel, Richard, JR and Fred only get to work three days a week. Unfortunately, this is their current work set-up due to the effects of the pandemic. Instead of doing nothing at home, they choose to go to Manila Bay and fish.

These guys live in Recto and they told us that they recently bought second-hand bicycles so they can conveniently travel and do something worthwhile during their free time.

“Binili namin ‘yung bike ngayong pandemic kasi ang hirap ng public transpo,” Jesrel said. “Pumupunta kami dito tuwing day off namin.”

(We bought this bike this pandemic because public transpo is difficult. We go here every time we have a day off.)

They were quite embarrassed to show us their bikes because they kept on saying that they were old and some of it came from a junk shop. But we saw that they were really happy with their bicycles.

Oh, the great joy of having a bicycle.

It was already dark when we took their photos and they needed to go home. But we’re pretty sure that they wanted to talk more about their hobby because they still tell stories as they prepare their bicycles for their ride back home.

“Limang kanduli ang nahuli namin (We caught five kandulis),” they proudly said. Richard followed up, “ako naka-sampu kaninang umaga (I caught ten this morning).”

Kanduli is also known as Manila sea catfish.
