Tears didn’t last long for his stolen bike because he needs to work

When this delivery guy’s bicycle got stolen, he cried. But the tears didn’t last long, he immediately borrowed money and combined it with his savings to buy a new one. He wanted to keep his job and he can’t do it without a bike.

Rhanny Balanta works as a part-time delivery guy for a small Korean barbecue takeaway shop in Meycauayan, Bulacan. He uses his bicycle to deliver food.

Last year, their house was robbed and many of their belongings were stolen. It includes his mountain bike.

“Naiyak po ako. Nakita ko ‘yung pinag-hirapan ko, ‘yung pagod ko tapos mawawala ng isang iglap,” the teary-eyed 19-year-old said.

Stealing is bad, robbery is a crime. Even if a bicycle is unlocked inside the house or is merely standing alone in public, no one should steal any property.

“Nanghiram muna ako ng bike para makapag-deliver pa rin. Tapos ‘yung konting naipon ko dati ginamit ko at nangutang po ako. Hinulugan ko na lang para lang makabili ng bagong bisikleta,” he said.

The owner of Samgyupsahaus , the shop where Rhanny works, lent him money so he can get a new bicycle. He persevered and allotted portions of his earnings from every delivery to slowly pay his debt back.

Hard work aside, this young dude handles his finances well. After paying his debt, he was able to swap his new MTB to a road bike and did upgrades. On top of these, Rhanny also gives money to his family for their expenses.

“Pinilit ko magka-bike kaagad kasi kung tutunganga lang ako at iisipin ko nang iisipin ‘yung nanakawan ako, walang mangyayari sa buhay ko,” he said.

Studies first so if he’s busy with his modules, he doesn’t work. But at the same time, if he has no order from SagyupSaHaus, he accepts delivery jobs from other businesses.

Just thinking about samgyupsal makes us hungry and Rhanny told us that he likes Korean barbecue. We teased him, asking if he was ever tempted to snatch a bit of the side dishes to ease his cravings while on work.

“Favorite ko ‘yung potato marbles at kimchi. Hindi po ako kumukurot. Para po ‘yun sa umorder kasi kung ano po ‘yung inorder, dapat ‘yun ‘yung darating sa kanila,” he said. “Pinambibili ko naman ng pagkain ‘yung bayad sa akin kapag gutom ako.”

Rhanny knows it very well: stealing is bad.
